Can I get UK Government Security Clearance? You do not need to hold security clearances to bid for MOD work. The MOD contracting procedures make sure that there is no competitive advantage in having prior security clearances. Requests for any clearances required are raised during the contractual process. A number of commercial organisations advertise for staff with security clearances. This practice is neither necessary nor desirable, and is strongly discouraged by the MOD.
If we clear you to BS: 7858:2006 You will be able to present the information collected as a positive security clearance (if that is the result) to any prospective employers or clients including the MOD or other UK government departments. This will obviously give you an edge over those not security cleared.
Will a criminal record result in my vetting fail? Not necessarily. Each case is judged on its merits. The important thing is to be open about any criminal history - including police cautions. Any attempt to hide information could be taken as evidence of unreliability/dishonesty and may affect the vetting.
Does it matter that there are gaps in my employment record? No not we can contact the UK Government on your behalf and they will confirm periods of unemployment etc.
